Karate for the young

Pee-Wee Karate is for children ages 3 to 6 years. We focus on building self-confidence, improving motor and coordination skills and having fun.

Children learn in a fun and safe environment basic karate skills like blocks, kicks, punches and stances. Students play games, that encourage team work and improve coordination. Students will learn some basic Japanese language, including counting, start/stop, colours, names of techniques, and more.

We pride ourselves in ensuring that your child’s first sporting experience is a positive one. Pee-Wee students do not follow a belt colour system but are rewarded with badges and a certificate at their grading class at the end of each term.

What happens during a class?

Pee-Wee Karate classes are 30 or 45 minutes long, depending on the venue or school.

Training starts with a warm-up/stretching and instructors then move on to the children learning more technical karate skills including exercises to improve co-ordination and balance. Children will learn etiquette, discipline and respect and leave the class with a new sense of confidence.

When Pee-Wee students turn 6 years of age, they will move up to Funakoshi Shotokan Karate.
